That depends on the country in which you plan to broadcast as well as what the format for which the end product is intended. HD? SD? PAL? NTSC? There are lots of broadcast options. It depends on the requirements of the station/channel for whom your product is being made.

Standard Definition (NTSC) in the US is 720×480, 29.97 fps with 0.9 pixel aspect ratio. However, many stations prefer other formats. Some want 720×486, many are now HD, and tons of other considerations.

Basically, what I’m trying to say is, ask them.

Michael is right, but I’d go even one step beyond “ask them”. Make sure that you confirm the delivery specifications with the client, preferably with a test clip that they confirm is acceptable. If you want to get paid at the end of your work, leave nothing to assumptions and guesswork at this early stage.
