I’m going to work for a Short movie (with friends and with an academy’s stuff so nothing money/work related) that has as the Main scene a Dream sequence.. Dream that will, it seems, be fairly long. So.. I’d love to, for the first time, try to engage a discussion with you all about what I could try to make it interesting/cool/whatsoever.

Have you ever worked on something like this? What ideas come to your mind? I have a couple of mine, but before so I’d really like to hear you. 😉 I still don’t know how much strong effects will have to be, but that’s even better, we can have all sorts of things caming out of here.

sounds like you’ll have some creative fun on this project. Here’s a few ingredients I got off the top of my head.

change the framerate, change the playback speed, add glows to the highlights, slower shutter for heavier blurs, mix previous frames together, rotate colors, new stylistic camera angles/editing, change focal length, new gels,

Shoot high speed if possible to be able to have true slow motion.
Use wide angle lenses in production and strange camera angles.
Using glows on highlights is a great way to visually point out that it is a dream sequence – just make sure you work in 32bit for best glow effects. Also you can double that with a Channel Blur on the Red.
A tilt shift in post may help.
An overall color grade that will be distinctly different than the rest of the piece will help.

In addition to time effects, a nice and simple adjustment layer with a g-blur, curve adjustment, and vignette mask is a good place to start.

Also, if possible, do some test shoots. That way you never say:

“Oh, if only we shot it like this!”
