The player’s silhouettes are stylized, and then that silhouette transitions into the actual footage under the light effect (mini-vortex) as the players enter.

In other words, the vortex doesn’t bring the player on; it brings an effected version of the player on, which in turn resolves to the player.

Also, it looks like there are two instances of a lens flare animated as they cross in the middles of the “vortex”. Knoll Light Factory or Optical Flares most likely.
