Bourne flashback effect

I’m not familiar with the effect, but try this:

-Create a new Adjustment Layer, place it at the top of your layers.

-Add a Box Blur to the Adjustment Layer with Iterations at least 3, choose a Radius that looks good to you and enable ‘Repeat Edge Pixels.’

-Change the Adjustment Layer to the ‘Add’ Blend Mode.

-If there is too much light blowing out you can optionally add a Levels effect to the Adjustment Layer and increase the Input Black value. If there is not enough light blowing out you can decrease the Input White value.

This tutorial deals with more localized lighting effects (a point source), where as I think the effect Ian described is a more global effect, especially considering the way he describes the effect ‘taking properties from what is happening on screen.’

I’d like to put together a tutorial on using Adjustment Layers for effects like this as well as color grading, hopefully I can find sometime to make that a reality in the coming weeks =)

I saw the movie 2 nights ago, and thought about it when I was watching it. It was basically a duplicate layer of the footage with only the brightest points stretching vertically.

Do this:

– duplicate the layer
– give it a levels effect
– increase the Input Black (so that you have almost no light points in there) Don’t be afraid to crank this up rel high – you want it mostly black
– give it a fast blur effect set to vertical only
– set it to the Add transfer mode

For extra points, add an adjustment layer on top of everything, and then play with different color correction effects to tint it greenish.
