Bottom line on ray trace on new iMac?
Thinking about he new iMac with 680mx. Still not qualified with CS6. But I know it can be hacked to use it, and the specs here are promising https://barefeats.com/imac12p2.html – but what are the real world results? Is it fine? Is it stable? Should I swap out my 2011 with the 6970m (which can’t use it hacked or not)? Also curious about its use ability in Premiere to a lesser extent. I am able to hack the list in my 2011, but I find after a time it starts to slow down and become unstable and I’m better off not using the card.
So what’s the story?

The reason that it doesn’t work without you hacking that file is that we haven’t yet tested it and determined that it works well. That’s all that I can say about it.
If you want us to add that card or any other specific card to the set that After Effects will use for GPU acceleration of the ray-traced 3D renderer, you should submit a feature request:

Hi Todd, just wanted to clarify since my post was kind of rambling. You were referring to AE on the iMac 2012 680mx, right?
And if so, why hasnt adobe tested it? It’s been about 6 months since it was public specs. I’d assume you guys had access a little longer than that. Or has the Apple / Adobe relationship gotten that bad?

Yes, I was referring to the 680MX.
It’s not a matter of bad versus good relationships with anyone. (The myth of a bad relationship between us and Apple is exactly that: myth.) Rather, we prioritize our work based on how many requests we get, and we had not gotten many requests for this until very recently.
