  • Boris Title 3D Broken. Pls help.

    Hi,

We’ve all been talking about how ver. 5.1.2 broke the Boris Red, Continuum, etc plug-ins – but I have a major problem with Title 3D [Calligraphy] that ships with FCP.

Long story short, after I upgraded to 5.1.2 [or maybe it was after I upgraded to 5.1] the Title 3D text went out of wack.

After upgrading the leading, size and kerning all SHIFTED. Now all my text on this particular project is all out of wack.

    Has anybody else experienced this?
If how, how on earth did you fix it???

FYI – upgrading to 5.1.4 didn’t fix it.

ANY help would be most appreciated.

Boris’ tech support are being GREAT and are looking into it too.

    Thanks,

    Wayne

Yes, all of that and worse. That tracking thing is what it does on new projects since the BCC upgrade, and on all old projects it crashes FCP. It totally sucks, and I have been on the phone with them at least 3 times and still Title 3D is f—-d up royally.

    Wayne,

I think something else must be wrong at your place. I have been using 5.1.2 since the day it came out, both on old and new projects, and Boris Title 3D has been good without any issues. Hope this helps in some way…

    David,

I’m glad to hear that your Title 3D is working, and Chris, I’m feeling your pain. Seems like we have a real anomoly here.

I want to be more specific about my problem in case it sheds some light on the situation:

I have two lines of text created in Boris 3D.
Inside the Boris 3D text input window, you can see that the two lines of text are real close to one another.
However, when the text is viewed in the canvas, the two lines are spaced far apart.

When you click back into the text input screen, you notice that the ‘leading’ is set to ‘0’[which is consistant with how the text looks in the canvas, ie spaced far apart – but NOT consistant with how the text looks in the input window].

It seems that there is a discrepency with how the new Boris is reading and scaling the old Boris texts – and I DESPERATELY need a work-around.

I’m working on a sub-title intensive documentary that has over 500 Title 3D text instances, and fixing each one by hand is not an option at this stage.

Any input will be most helpful.

    Thanks,

    Wayne

Have you rendered the Title 3D? And have you changed position using the motion tab? If you have changed position in the motion tab, undo that and change the position of the text using the ‘center’ property in the boris controls. You can hold the option key and drag the text around if that’s easier. This way the text is kept vector based and holds up to scaling and positioning much better than in FCP.

    Hi Jeremy,

Thanks for the suggestion, but I’m afraid that’s not helping at all.

    Anyone else? Bueller? Bueller?

Has the font changed or been updated?

FIXED!!!!!!!! Thanks Paul @ Boris Support

Well actually, it’s a work-around, but it’s enabled me to move forward with my project that has over 500 Title 3D clips.

Below is the work-around from Paul at Borris Tech support for any of you guys that are having the same problems.

Thanks for all your help guys,

    Wayne

    ——-

    1. Move the four elements of Calligraphy (Text Scrambler, Title 3D, Title Crawl and Vector Shape) out of the FCP plugins folder located: Hard Drive-Library-Application Support-Final Cut System Support-Plugins. If you have another drive, place them in there. FCP will find them in the trash.

    2. Run the installer for Calligraphy 1.1. It should place a folder called “Boris Calligraphy” in the FCP plugins folder. In the Boris Calligraphy folder there should be only two files, Title 3D and Title Crawl.

    3. Here comes the pain, you will have to re-locate each of the titles individually. Each time you click “yes”, after the first time, it will default to the “Plugins” folder so, whatI did was, when the message pops up asking you to do so, have one finger on the “Enter” key and another on the Right Arrow key (inbetween the “Control” and Zero key) and just keep hitting enter, arrow right and enter until all the titles have been relinked.

The older version of Calligraphy only has Title 3D and Title Crawl so, if you do have titles created with Text Scrambler or Vector Shape, you might have to recreate them if they do not appear correctly.

Here is the link to Calligraphy 1.1:
