    Hi:

I am looking to buy a sturdy boom pole for use with both a AT shotgun mic housed in a RODE blimp, and at other times a Lowell mini pro back light (around 2 lbs). This would be used for location shoots, so I need it to be relatively light and collapse down to around 40″ or so.

I have tried the $100 manfrotto boom and it bends.

I was looking at the low end Gitzo carbon Fiber pole (around $200), but not sure if I should pull the trigger.

I want a pole that is rugged (can take a super clamp, if need be) and will not bend…at a price that won’t kill me (hopefully around $200. I have been using the steel pole from my C stand, but do not like the weight of it when I am on location.

    Thanks in advance!

You’ll need a graphite pole to keep the weight down.

Here is one with the cable inside. If you do this alot, you need to invest in quality equipment. I don’t have experience with a boom pole, but here is one I was looking at for a future project.
