    Hi All

I have a question relating to BMD SD 10bit to DV codec when transcoding down from 10bit. In the near future I will be on location with a laptop system possibly needing to access 10 bit material and incorporate with daily DV footage in a DV timeline, my only output and playback option on location will be DV. So my first work flow thought would be to render out the 10bit media in a DV timeline. I

in my experience, yes. Final Cut makes horrible transcodes of everything. Why don’t you just take your 10 bit, lay it to Digi via SDI, and then bring it back in with “Blackmagic DV” from the Digi? It will do a beautiful DV transcode. That way you don’t have to waste time dumping down to DVCAM and then coming in Firewire.

Thanks for this Charlie I’ll give it a shot. Will BMD DV playback through fire wire? I’ve never tried that.

on another related note to all this – in my tests, I discovered that when dropping BMD 10bit media into apple DV timeline, the picture automatically tries to scale to 97.7 percent – this may account for the crappy fuzzy transcode – if I change scale to 100 I’m thinking this may help with this transcode – more later after I test this out.

    thanks
