    hello cows…

I searched trought this forum but am a bit confused….

we have a project we wanna solve with this equipment we wanna buy.

    BM Declink extreme
MC pro dual XEON 2,66, 2gb ram
    2 x 320gb Lacie FW 800
    Final Cut Pro 5.1.4

we have to edit some stuff on DIGIbeta. Just capture, make some edits, and digital cut again to tape.

We would like to have the less compression as possible.

Do you guys think that with the card, computer, FCP, and those hard drives we can manage the project?

Am a bit sacared about the transfer data rate for Uncompresssed SDI, or at least 2:1. Does fw800 could support that? (like avid, i dont know if FCP has the same option 2:1)

The last possibility could be convert on FCP IO settings, SDI or YUB to dv, and then playback trough SDI on digital cut.

So here I go with the questions….

Does the hard drives will support uncompressed 8bits SDI or at least COMPONENT RGB?

Do you think we could get this project with this equipment?

Does this card also work on After Effects, Combustion and Premiere?
    (secondary but important)

Does the sdi IO embebed 4 audio channels?

If we buy the BM pci, can we still use the card on a Windows OS?

Thanks a lot for your support, we are really stressed with this project…

although you are pushing it (with today’s modern inexpensive SATA drives on the market) – yes, this system configuration will work. Lots of companies including Lacie make SATA drive products, that will outperform your FW800 drives.

    THX a lot…

Its ok then to use the BMD. Does is will work also with COmbustion, premiereo PRO and After Efeccts?

And between OS windows and MAC?

I think it will be better to mount stripped 2 SATA drives, than carry around 2 Lacie….

Does SATA drives will work on MACPRO, or should i add a controller card?

Sorry but am coming from AVID MCA on Windows, to FCP on MAC, and i had not so much idea about mac hardware and systems….

    THX in advance…

    REPLY – yes

REPLY – yes (it works in Win XP, and MAC OS-X, I never tried XP emulation on the MAC).

    REPLY – good idea

REPLY – you can use the internal slots for SATA until you get more money to buy an external box, like a Cal Digit.

    REPLY –
if you don’t know much about hardware, you should hire someone to install all this stuff for you, as you will find it confusing. None of this is easy.

    THANKS A LOT

We will use combustion 4, After effects 7 and Final Cut.

We already ordered the MACPRO with 2 320gb SATA raid 0 hard drives.

On the shop they will give us everything ready, i mean, the SATA drives in RAID 0.

About the card, i asumme its like PCI cards on win system. Just open, plug, install and ready to go!!!!

Thanks a lot for all the info BOB!!!!

    Have a nice weekend
