  • Blurred/Feathered edges between two images

Posted by Ashley Campbell on September 2, 2007 at 6:28 am

The project I will be editing will be in split screen close to 50% of the time. I would like to achieve a feathered or blurred look between two images.

The soft edges video filter doesn’t seem to work well because I crop my images – it references my original edge line rather than my new cropped edge line.

Is there a way to make a natural looking blur between the two? Almost like a gradient? An area specific superimpose?

    Thanks!

why not do exactly that? use a black to white graident, created in photoshop or similar. sandwich it between the two video tracks and then in the upper track, set the composite mode to “travel matte – luma”

    Matte>
Mask Shape (create your “split” with this)
    Mask Feather (makes it soft)

Image mask also works. You place a white to black gradient image in the ‘image well’ of the effect controls. This is a real-time effect.
