I have a video clip that I have to put video in place over a projector screen in the background; the problem is that in the foreground there is a person walking back and forth. To make matters worse the camera moved to track the person.

I have tried to no avail to track this with AE and with a trial of MochaAE. Mocha tries but it starts having a problem when the person moves and then takes a total dive when he and the camera are moving.

    Here is an example frame:

At this point I have manually tracked the corners and made it so that my background video is in place throughout. I have tried a few different things to get this to work, keying the blue out putting the video under the footage. I have tried putting the video over the footage and then keying out the part of the person that goes over the video in another comp and then putting that over top of the video layer. I know this will work, just at a loss as to the next step that gets both my video on the screen and the person in front of the screen. 🙁

As always any and all help appreciated.

Not sure about Mocha AE, but in Mocha (the full version) you can draw and animate a garbage matte around areas that the tracker needs to ignore. In your case the person walking in front of the screen. That would help Mocha get a better track.

But now that you’ve got a decent manual track I’m not sure what the problem is.

Placing your video on top of the corner-pin animated background and keying out the blue in the top layer should get you what you want. So what exactly is going wrong there?

    Hello Bar3nd

The Key was the problem. in the second picture i posted you can see that the edges were full of artifacts. The other problem was the dark halo around the subject. i went to Andrew Kramer’s tutorial about keying and followed him, wow, what a difference.

i posted and then tried to do more with out waiting for a response and now i think i posted in haste. this shot is finally coming together, but if anyone has any suggestions from thier experience with keying and tracking, its all welcome.

how do you create and animate a garbage matte? i have downloaded the beta 1.2.1 soho edition and it doesnt seem to be any better than the MochaAE edition.

    Check out this:

even though i have tracked it by hand, i would say that if i could get mocha to do it i would have a better chance of getting rid of the wobble towards the end of the clip. if you can explain a few steps to help me get mocha to track this it would be a big help. 🙂
