Blu-Ray: H.264 vs. MPEG and a question about bit rates
I’m ready to burn my first Blu-Ray project and I have a couple of basic questions. I tried searching for the answers but my terms are two generic.
First, is there any benefit in H.264 vs. MPEG or vice versa?
Second, what is a good bit rate to burn at? Back in the SD DVD days, I would get nice results with 7MB/S but I know you can run into trouble with spikes and things if you encoded at too high of a rate. So what is too high for Blu-Ray? 30? 35? 40?
I know there is a lot of debate on CBR vs. VBR, but I’ll try to avoid that and just say that I prefer CBR, so I just need to figure out a safe threshold that will allow me to get the best possible quality video on my Blu-Ray disc.
Thanks for your help!
