I have been trying to make my first blu-ray for a couple of days with no luck. Editing in Vegas 11 and I’ve tried with both Architect 5.2 and 6. The project previews and prepares with no warnings or problems. It is menu based with 2 videos, a 1 hr. 10 min. and a 20 min. Total of 13.3 GB. All the things I’ve tried and burned I get a “Unsupported Format” error from the player.

The project was shot using a Canon XF300 that creates MXF files. These were edited in Vegas 11. I have tried rendering in as MPEG-2 Blu-ray 1920×1080 60i 25Mbps with AC-3 and AVC with PCM.

I must be missing a step, a setting or it’s my player. I’m in a new area and haven’t found any other players to try it in. Is there anything I need to do when I insert the blank media? I ask because it pops up asking about formating . Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I would say it probably has something to do with the player you
are putting it in, Try if you can get a next player to test
    the playback in.
Does this player plays other Blu-Ray content well?

What player are you using? Does it have the latest firmware updates? Unlike DVD Players, Blu-ray players can have their firmware updated so it’s a good idea to check with the manufacturer to see if there are any updates.

Thanks for the response. Yes, I’m still trying to find another player to try it in. I know way back with Vegas 3 and Architect I found that some players wouldn’t play certain media but that settled down after a while. I didn’t know that it was going to be same thing with Blu-ray.

My player has always played all of the DVDs I’ve made. It also plays Blu-rays that were rented or bought without any problems. Thanks again Steve.

Hi John. The player is an RCA BRC11082. There doesn’t seem to be an update as far as I have been able to find. The player and RCA players in general seem to have lots of bad reviews. But it has worked great for me up until trying to play a blu-ray that I created. I will continue to try and find some other players to try it in.

Really bums me out if it is the player because I have no idea what player this or other clients may have. Still it could be something I’m missing when making the disc. Thank you for taking to respond.

    Here is the user manual:

    https://www.manualowl.com/m/RCA/BRC11082/Manual/194357

In page 4, you can read that this player plays only recordable CDs (CD-R and CD-RW). It doesn’t play recordable blu-ray discs (BD-R).

Good catch Frank. Strange that it doesn’t play BD-R. What are these manufacturers thinking?

Wow! Thanks Steve. I can’t beleive it. Like I said I remember well the problems in the beginning with DVDs. But thought surely after going through that they would have gotten their act together when blu-ray came out. I will have to contact the client and see which player they have.

Sounds like I need another player. I’d be interested knowing what players other Sony Vegas and Architect users are using. Thanks again.

Lets know if it works in another player, and brand!

Blu-ray is an absolute mess. They couldn’t have screwed it up more. Some players won’t play BD-R discs with menus (i.e, BDMV) and will only play BDAV format because one is consider the “Hollywood” format and the other a “consumer” format! This is all part of their draconian copy protection! Blu-ray is nothing like DVD. It’s a horror to deliver and the players need to constantly have their firmware updated which most people don’t do.

Hello Frank and thanks for the response. This is very strange.

The player manuel doesn’t specifically say that it will play BD-R but it also doesn’t specifically say DVD-R or DVD+R and I know for a fact that it will play both.

From the manual: “This unit has been designed to playback BD-video with region (Hexagon symbol with points up and down with a capital letter A in the middle. I searched blu-r and DVD symbols but did not see that one. I’m assuming it is the same as All.)”

Architect help has this to say about Regions: Region coding is not currently supported in Blu-ray Disc projects. The region codes you specified in Project Properties will be ignored, and your Blu-ray Disc will be accessible in all regions.
