BLU-RAY burning Final Cut Questions!
Hi everyone, I am looking for advice regarding creating a blu ray. I need the menu to be customized so I was told not to bother trying to burn it in Final Cut because of the limited menu options. My boss suggested encore, I also have DVD studio Pro. Which program would be my best option?
Also… I’m worried I’m going to not use the best settings and the quality will suffer….
The project is a 45 minute wedding shot with SONY-EX1 and CANON 5D II. I converted the footage to pro ress 422 and have edited in a pro ress sequence. So am I to export out of FCP or send it to compressor and if so what video and audio settings should I use?I notice when I exported the video to quicktime the colours were washed out? I have no idea how to fix this besides doing extra colour corrections in FCP?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated. No one I know seems to have any idea…….. sigh.. lol!

DVDSP will not create BluRay Discs Period.
If you need menu options go w/Adobe Encore.

Encore works in a very similar way to DVD Studio Pro… and comes with an application called Adobe Media Encoder (which is similar to Compressor) which makes the media files for you (for a 45 minute video I would recommend the MPEG-2 Blu Ray setting rather than the h.264 one)

I’ve found that Encore prefers MPEG2 for Blu-Ray over h.264.

Encore is your only affordable option here but its incredibly buggy so count on alot of road bumps. Personally I think you should send this work to an experienced BD author like Warren.
Not to sound Doom and Gloom but its rather sad to see how many people looked foolish in the past when they cant deliver a product to the client.

Ask your boss why he insists on H264. There’s no reason not to go MPEG 2. We’ve delivered in the neighborhood of 200 BluRay discs over the past four years or so. All MPEG-2. These discs have been used for home distribution to playback on 75′ and larger screens at film festivals. Your boss does not require H264.
Adobe Encore in a word, sucks. Great for DVDs and great for “Play Only” BluRay discs that do not require a menu. However, when you add a menu to the BluRay disc, the entire program falls apart. It will simulate just fine, but when you actually create an ISO file or try to burn the disc itself, 9 times out of 10 the disc will fail. I was surprised to find that Encore CS5 is no better than CS4 when it comes to BluRay discs.
We switched to a Windows only program call DoStudio from NetBlender. This is a professional BluRay authoring application that does work each and every time. We purchased a really sweet HP Workstation for around $1500 (including the BluRay Burner) solely to run this application.
