i’m putting together a little slide show of stills and music in FCP. it all plays fine when just cutting from shot to shot, but as soon as i add dissolves or other transitions, the shots “bloom” or sort of “zoom” in and out slightly during each transition…and otherwise the shots don’t move at all. i was going to do some panning and zooming on the shots, but just checking transitions first and see this icky zooming effect.

does anyone know how to get rid of this?? thanks…

If you mean the little “pop” that occurs during the transition, it’s most likely FCP’s realtime. You might even notice some softness creep in.

Try rendering out your timeline before previewing. Should play fine.

Thanks. I rendered, but the blooming was still there, but once i output through Compressor and made the DVD, it all looked fine. Thanks for the encouragement!

Sounds like you might be rendering only certain segments of your timeline. Make sure that you render ALL of it (including the stills segments where there is no transition), sometimes it’s easy to miss, and if your transitions are rendered and not your footage, you can still get that pop.

When you output to Compressor, the system has to create a temp file for anything that the machine was doing in realtime (essentially the same as rendering) – so that could be why the problem disappeared when you put it to DVD.

    Maybe.
