Blending Modes GONE!
Posted by Tip345 on June 1, 2007 at 4:34 amHey guys and gals,
My name is Ben. I am 22 and use AE 6.5, when I got it I think i remembered the blending modes working.
I use blending modes all the time in Photoshop so I know how to use them. is there any difference between photoshop and AE… IS there a reason why my blending modes won’t work right now? any “hotkey” i might have accidently hit that toggled them off?
Thanks
ben

June 1, 2007 at 5:23 amIn the Timeline Window, to the right of the layers, before the timeline, are there any columns at all?
If no, or no Modes column, right click next to “Source Name” (AE 6.5) and select the Mode column. If the “Switches” Column is showing double click it on the bottom and “Modes” will pop up.
Or…
As a short cut, highlight the layer then click “Shift and + or -” to cycle through the modes, of course without the modes column showing you won’t know where you are, except maybe when you get to Difference.

June 1, 2007 at 3:53 pmOk… Here’s what I’m experiencing. The layers you can see. I have set the blend modes to whatever “mutiply/screen” whatever I desire. But it has NO effect whatsoever on the composition. The only thing I notice is on the left of the layer title the eyeball is filled in with black, instead of being a regular eyeball like the rest of the layers. Maybe that’s because the blend mode is on. But why is it on and not working.
Here’s a link to what I’m looking at please look!

P.S. notice how the blend modes are on but it doesn’t effect the composition at all

Maybe you should switch off OpenGL preview?

Notice how the little eyes are filled in black on the left side. Now the Open GL thing is set to “Off” but i tried it on every option on that popdown menu and nothing made it work
Thanks.

June 1, 2007 at 6:02 pmTry changing the opacity of the upper layer to less than 100%.
I’ve found that Vivid Light doesn’t work with all colours at full opacity.

That’s with the opacities potted down, the Open GL switched to off…. Any More suggestions… Anybody?
The Problem:: My blend modes don’t work. At all. I’ve tried different stuf (graphics and video) but they don’t work.
Thanks

June 1, 2007 at 8:02 pmI think I bought the Educational Version of the program. Is blend modes not available on Edu verion? I don’t think this is the issue… Thanks

June 2, 2007 at 1:11 amOkay, try this:
-magenta solid over yellow solid
-black background
-prefs: openGL enabled, effects use adaptive resolution
-preview button in comp window set to adaptive resolution (little squares will be black, not green as in your screengrab)
– mode of magenta solid:linear burn
– drag the magenta solid upwards and to the right, drag the yellow solid downwards and to the left, but let them overlap so you have a dark red overlap in the middle. That’s what I see, AE 6.5.1, MacBook Pro. Do you see that?
