We are working on a project and some of it has been edited in FCP. The issue is that the blacks in M100 aren’t black. They are a milky dark grey and there is a noticeable difference.

    What’s up with that?

Simple answer: Black in question was most likely generated in a 16-235 colorspace with a 7.5 % setup vs. a 0-255 colorspace with black being a value of 0.

    Yes, its highly annoying.

Is there a easy fix after the fact?

    Hey Elliott,

    How have you been?

The best you can do to solve a “dueling color spaces” problem like this is to try to match up the codecs. I’m guessing that you cannot re-capture the FCP media, so try to re-acquire the M100 media to the same codec as the FCP stuff.

As always, do a couple of short tests before diving all the way in.
