Black thumbnails and black in pan/crop
I have Windows 7 and Sony Vegas Pro 9.0 (64-bit). When I place videos (all .avi format) into the timeline, the thumbnails in the timeline are all black. When I split the video up with “S”, the thumbnails remain black. Also, when I select pan/crop, the preview in the window that pops open is also black making it very difficult to use keyframes and see what I’m doing.
These problems started after I got a new computer (my old one had Sony Vegas Pro 9.0 (32-bit) and Windows Vista and the thumbnails all worked perfectly fine with the same media that I’m using now so I know my .avi files aren’t corrupted or anything).
This problem has been starting to drive me crazy because I use a LOT of clips in my videos and without the thumbnail, I have to click each one to see what it is (the clip plays perfectly in the video preview).

I really appreciate any words of advice!! I’m not computer expert.

Do another screenshot but move the Pan/Crop window so we can see the timeline.

Try this:
Go to OPTIONS-PREFERENCES-tab VIDEO and select ALL for THUMBNAILS TO SHOW IN VIDEO EVENTSDoes that change something?

Unfortunately no, I’ve played with those options and the thumbnails remain black. I’ve also reinstalled the program too.
I just tried Vegas on my old computer again with that same video clip and the thumbnails are fine, I’ve briefly compared the preferences to Vegas on my new computer and they all appear the same but I may have missed something…It’s the same version of the program on both computers and the only difference that I know of is that my old one is 32-bit.

I remember that would sometimes happen with me, and I think it was the source video I was using. Can you render it and have it work correctly?

Yep, when I render it it turns out perfectly fine, no black spots or missing clips. Maybe it’s the fact that it’s 64-bit? I’m not really sure what the difference is (only that I had to install the 64-bit on my new laptop)…but my video clips work fine on my 32-bit Vegas on my old computer with visible thumbnails and pan/crop preview.

No problem, I am just trying to give back the help I got.
And I guess you might as well just use the 32 bit. I understand you won’t be able to utilize as much RAM and it might be a little more sluggish than 64, but at least it works. I honestly don’t know how to fix it, except with just a little experimentation.
