I’m running PP/CS-6 on a Mac. Just added a Black Magic Intensity Pro card to drive an HD monitor. In order for it to work properly, I need to select one of the Black Magic codecs for my timeline setting. My raw footage comes in as H264 from DSLR or MTS from a Sony FS700. I’d of course prefer to edit in the camera native format, but can’t. Seems kinda like the tail wagging the dog to have to choose my edit codec based on my desire for a monitor.

Am I looking ay this the wrong way?

    Thanks in advance.

I’m not in front of my PPro machine that has a BM card at the moment but I think the sequence setting presets are just for frame rate, frame size, pixel aspect ratio, interlaced/progressive, etc., but not codec. Unlike Avid and FCP 7 there is no native codec associated with the timeline in PPro. When you generate preview/render files those you can specify to be in a specific codec but the timeline itself is ‘codec free’ as I understand it.

I thought on CS6 you did have to have black magic sequences with their hardware.
(but maybe that was cs 5.5)

but with CC it didn’t matter any more.

You could be right. I barely used CS6 before upgrading to CC.
