System suddenly generating 2 or 3 black frames at the end of an ETT or PTV

Trashed prefs, cycled power on Mac, Io and Beta – no change

Reloaded ALL – 10.3.9 update, QT 6.5.2, FCP 4.5 and IoV2. Restarted, repaired permissions, trashed prefs – no change

Have tried 2 Beta decks – exactly the same

Machine is inserting accurately, leangth of insert okay – just extra black frames at end!!!!!

    SUGGESTIONS PLEASE, thanks in anticipation

Chilled (but less than usual 😉

    Dual 2GHz, 4GB, Huge, AJA Io, SW (FCP 4.5, QT 6.5.2, 10.3.9, IoV2)

Sorry, but I have to ask the obvious… Are you using the Insert function or the Assemble function of ETT? As you know the Assemble feature will add black frames at the end of the “insert” and break the control track. Are your tapes striped long enough to allow an insert.
Just the basic questions to start with.

normal insert, laid down 5 mins of bars&tone to determine how many black frames were being generated (this customer has been producing a daily broadcast package on the system for a while)
Same output on 2 decks, so assume its a SW issue, any ideas?

Try using the “editing” selection not the “mastering” one. Or visa versa. I had the same problem with my Kona card, and switching the mode from “mastering” to editing” fixed the problem. Strange thing is that when i went back with another project later in the week the “mastering” mode worked just fine when doing an insert!

Thought maybe it would help you too!

    Thanks Rick

We did try this, and 1 insert worked okay but not again!!!
They produce a daily 30 min broadcast program, there isn’t time to re-print the whole show if one insert adds black.

Do you remember what you did during the week that might have made a difference?
