    Hello and thanks for helping!

Following John’s ScatterShot Tutorial on YouTube…. I downloaded trial version of VASST ScatterShot 3D today. Seems awesome!

I am testing 3D Scatter of different colored t-shirts.

Pretty much using the default settings, I’ve imported 140 same-sized t-shirt images from Photoshop having saved them for web with black matte as PNG with transparnet BG.

Importing the png’s… -instead of them being transparent, each image has a black bg.

I rendered a sample movie -but the black bg blocks out the other layers. (I was thinking I could key out the black, later… but that thought was wrong).

Please offer some advice about using transparent png’s (Early on, I think I also tested psd files with same undesired result)

What is the best technique to perform my challenge?

    Thank you,
    KW

Unfortunately png with alpha transparency show up as a black background until you tell Vegas about the transparency. You must select the properties for the png and select the type of alpha channel for each.

I don’t know if you can select a group of files in the project tab, but it’s worth a try.

I feel like a chump having added 140 images and have to select each individual IMAGE…

    right click,

    select properties,

    scroll down to Alpha Channel,

    Hit Ok. WAIT for computer…..

    Select next thumbnail,
    RIGHT CLICK,
    SELECT PROPERTIES….

    SCROLL DOWN…

    lame. really lame.

When I bring a png with a transparent area into SVP 10, Vegas properly displays the transparent area without any need to set properties. I know this because I can see the layer on the timeline which is underneath the png image. I’m not yet using SVP 11, but I think it will do exactly the same thing. Your problem may be occurring in Photoshop. When saving a one layer png image which contains a transparent area, the layer must not be named “background”. If it is, Photoshop will not preserve the transparent area. I am also careful that Photoshop does not save the png file as a copy. You can double check this by looking at the image after it is saved to confirm that transparency was preserved.

    10-4 Chief.. Good Pointers..

Opening an old-PNG’s within PS-CS5 I see my 140 images are index color Mode (256).

Then, I’d created an NEW Action that changed the mode from index to RGB, Selected the transparent area, Did a Ctrl+Shift+I (invert selection)…

Created the Alpha Mask by clicking the icon below Layers Pallet (So there is now an Alpha Channel of -Black Area surrounding The T-Shirts themselves are the White Mask).. Saved for web as PNG-8 (not PNG-24 ~I forget why I choose that)..

Now, as a (random-hurried) TEST, I created an HTML WEBPAGE using (not Dreamweaver -but a MS Version called ~ahhhhhh.. FPage) (a really easy way to create a webpage using a GUI program that provides a simple interface to create an HTML Doc with Preview… -ah the backlash of FrontP haters…I hear you, echo-ing…)… I Placed my png Image on the page.. *In Preview Mode the image has a BLACK BACKGROUND, but when previewed in the BROWSER, its Transparent…

So I am uploading one image of my t-shirt, for the enjoyment of those interested in discovering whether or not I have create a proper Transparent Image using Photoshop with Alpha Channel.

    Thank you, thank you..

Then I guess you will have to set properties in Vegas just as was previously described. For myself, I try to keep things simple by doing what will work in Vegas with a minimum of hassle.
