Black Background out of Nowhere?
Hi,
I am totally new to video editing and Sony Vegas.
I recorded a Powerpoint presentation using Camtasia. The resulting video file (avi, Techsmith Codec) I imported into Vegas for editing. Everything worked well, and it looked great in the preview window.
However, when I render the video, all the slide transitions suddenly appear black. That means, each slide first fades to black and then the next one fades out of black.
Normally, the slides should slowly transition into each other.

I’m not sure why this is happening. I suspect it has something to do with Camtasia’s codec vis a vis PowerPoint. I use camtasia for screen capture a lot but never to capture a moving powerpoint. One solution I can see is to skip PowerPoint. Export your slides as individual .png files (you can do this in the PowerPoint save as menu). In Options>Preferences on the editing tab you can set the duration of each image and of the overlap (try .5 or 1 sec) before you add all the images to the timeline. Then you slideshow will be quickly reconstructed and you can render in your desired format.

you were right:
It was a problem with Camtasia’s video codec. I tried to re-compress the file after I had recorded it with Camtasia before importing it into Vegas — and voilá, it worked!
Also, Camtasia supports to record using a different codec right from the beginning. I guess I could have done that as well.
