    Hey,

I was just wondering if it was possible through AE to have a shot in colour but to have it change to black and white slowly, as if stretching across the shot?

If anyone could help it’d be great,

    cheers.

you could animate a white (or black or gray) layer moving across the footage. then set the blending mode for that layer to ‘color’.

you can get better control of the ‘expansion’ of b/w by animating mask points/shape if desired.

animating a paint brush could also work (again, using a colorless hue and setting the blending mode to ‘color’).

I’d apply the Black & White effect to an adjustment layer and animate a mask on the adjustment layer. Or, if the transition is just a straight wipe, I’d animate the Linear Wipe effect on the adjustment layer.
