  Bin background full-range color picker: use CTL+ALT while clicking on the normal 16-color option bar

  Tip not frequently seen: how to open the full-range color picker to select a bin background color:

  First, click within a bin background, then use the standard Edit menu, Set Bin Background, — THEN — press both the Control and the Alt keys while clicking on the color bar (which otherwise shows only 16 color options).

  The full-range color picker opens.
