    im looking to achieve this effect.
    the blue line.

    if you watch the video from his site, you’ll see that the lightsource moves left and right as it opens up the image of the guy.
    how do I create an effect that is simliar, also how did you do it bill, if you don’t mind me asking.

    This should be pretty easy to do with beam (effects >render >beam). Animate the position, start and end points to make it appear, add more glow using, erm, glow. Make it flicker using some animated fractal noise as track matte.
    3rd party wise – Trapcode 3D stroke applied to a horizontal path with taper enabled plus glow, or Knoll Light Factory ‘stripe’ preset.
