big endian – codec

Big Endian is the audio codec (in this case PCM )and is not the video codec. Do you have quicktime player on your PC? If so when you open the file what happens?

If it says it need to download a codec and that fails then you should go back to the person who made the disk and ask them. I can’t possibly guess from the info supplied.

ok, here is all the additional info that I could get.

the disc is labeled: Codec – Integer – Big Endian

Quicktime DID show the “have to get additional software……” and I was letting it do it’s thing.

the player opens, and the window switches to the correct size. But all I see is white – the player even shows the correct time of the clip and i can scrub through it. but nothing – only white all over.

this is the info that i get when i load it into a converter:
Vid Frame Size: 1024×576
FPS: 25
Video Codec: Uncompressed 10-Bit 4:2:2
Interlacing: Lower First
Aspect Ration 16:9 Pixel 1:1
Audio 48.000kHz 16 Bit Audio Codec 16-bit Big Endian

if I try to convert it I get the same result. white frames – nothing else.

as i said, to my knowledge this clip was made on a mac workstation running avid and it was sent to me from a professional cutting facility.

the big prob is that I cannot reach anoyone there until beginning of next week but I need to work on the footage

any ideas are welcome. even if it’s a hassle : )

You can not open an Apple Uncompress movie in a PC. That codec is not supported by QT in that platform.
The Big or little Endian is not here the issue.

ok, so I already made an appointment tomorrow with a Mac guy
and he will open the file for me….

The only prob is… He is not really experienced in this field and I am a total beginner when it comes to macs.

sorry for this 1st grade question, but can someone please give me a brief guideline on what i need to do?

I need this uncompressed apple movie in a format that i can open on a pc. possibly with the least amount of quality loss.

Again, not an FCP issue.

You should contact the facility that made the file & tell them specifically what format you need it in.

Download and install the Blackmagic codecs (free), and export the file as Blackmagic 10b Uncompressed. You won’t loose quality. Then you just need to install the same codecs in the PC to get the files opened.
