I have a video that is about 994MB and a little less than 2 hours that I ripped from a DVD and is now an .avi file. When I play the video in Media Player it runs perfectly. However, when I import it into Premiere the audio is out of sync and gets worse as the video progresses. If I cut a piece and drop in the timeline the video is choppy and the sync is still off. What’s weird is that I can run it fine in a silly program like Windows Movie Maker but I really don’t want to use that and can’t use that for what I have to do. What is the problem and how can I fix it?
    Thanks

The problem lies in how it was encoded. Premiere will be a lot more picky in playback than WMP for obvious reasons, especially with the likes of Xvid, DivX, etc. which are not made for edit and that PP doesn’t support.

You best bet is to rip from DVD (non encrypted) using Tpmegenc Express, which will let you pick uncompressed as an export option. Of course, you are looking at 200 Gigs, not 1. But that 1 Gig file must be pretty awful looking anyway.

    Cheers,

Actually the 1 gig looks great but you hit the nail on the head. It is XVID. I’m going to see if I can do it another way. Thanks.

    Hi!
I think i have the same symthom as Richard though my material is HD, raw mpeg2. And what makes it even more confusing is that not every clip that I imported at the same time miss synched.

So my problem is as follows:
The videostream is constand from 00:00 -> 15:30 but the audio is “looping” and can be described as 1->4 in progress – then it jumps back and reuses part 1 again. So that is 1->4+1… Verry frustrateing – and all help would be greatfull!

    Thanks
    Bjorn
