I haven’t used BG renderer in a while, but there have been times when I’ve really loved it. Tonight would be one of those times, but it’s not working for me. The Terminal halts after after complaining “badly placed ()’s”

At first I thought I might have an illegal render name, or comp name or project name. I think I eliminated all those possibilities. I then searched on “badly placed ()’s” and it seems to be a problem with the script – an unclosed parenthesis or something. It’s a Unix thing.

Anyone else had this issue, or more important, worked around it?

I found this thread, because i had the same problem. I know its from 2009, but i think its never too late for an answer with maybe a solutions. In my case special characters in the filename of the .aep-file causes the problem.
