Better/Worse methods of importing footage
Posted by Tobias Van kleeck on April 2, 2020 at 8:13 pmHello all,
Does anyone know, of all the different ways to import footage, is one more “stable” than another?
Thanks for any help!

April 3, 2020 at 12:58 amUsing Media Browser covers all your bases all the time. May not be necessary for things that don’t live in a camera-card environment, but you should just do it that way all the time in my opinion.

System:
Dell Precision T7600 (x2)
Win 7 64-bit
32GB RAM
Adobe CC 2017.1 (as of 8/2017)
256GB SSD system drive
4 internal media drives RAID 5
Typically cutting short form from UHD MP4, HD MP4, and HD P2 MXF. -

April 3, 2020 at 8:00 pmIf the file is 100% self contained you can use import.
If the file is not 100% contained (spanned clips, complex directories, external metadata files, etc) then Media Browser is the way to go because Premiere can properly identify the clips/structure before trying to import.
