  • best way to select L/R channels on audio track?

I often need to render a project I’m working on and send the work-in- progress to a client via yousendit.com or other means for feedback.

What is the best type of rendering (Vegas template) that I can use to maintain quality and have maximum compression?

For a recent project, I used the Sony AVC (mp4) Internet 4:3 template and the client was happy with it.

    Thanks Mike,

I’m curious, can you tell me how many minute the project was and the size of the associated output to give me an idea?

I just noticed that the subject for this post is wrong.

For some reason, I can’t edit it to something more pertaining.

    Sorry about that.

Gilles, a 13.5 min. video came in at 60 MB.
I tried WMV with the 3 Mbps preset and it was considerably larger (over 90 MB.) and, IMO, the quality wasn’t as good.
If the client doesn’t have QuickTime on their computer, VLC media player (it’s free) will handle the format.

BTW, you need Pro 9 for the render option I mentioned.

You can use Video4YouTube for this task (it is free). If you do not use YouTube, you can simply render a project (in the selected resolution and quality) and send the file to a client.

Thanks Mike for telling me the specs. my vid is 20 min. so it should come in at under 100 MB. that’ll work.

Thanks Aleksey for your tip on the plugin. I’ve downloaded it and will give it a try as well.

thanks again guys. I appreciate the help.

    Hi Mike,

I just tried the sony avc with internet 4:3 template and I got 400mb file for a 22 min video!

I must be missing some settings. Do you customize the template?

Gilles, I can’t remember if I customized the template or not.
The files are on my home computer so I won’t be able to get you an answer until tonight but I will definitely check it.

Gilles, I owe you an apology.
The small file size was a result of using the MainConcept Apple iPod 320×240 preset.
That resulted in a 60 MB. file.
The Internet 4:3 preset gave me a 406 MB. file.
I used the iPod template for approval purposes too because the file size was nice and small.
Once the project was finished, then I rendered it using the other preset so that their web guys had a high quality video to put on their web site.

Thanks for taking the trouble to check Mike.

It makes sense. I’ll use this same workflow as I always use a version for approval and it needs to be small.

    Thanks again.
