One of the best ways to share screen with a client remotely is by using remote screen sharing apps like Zoom, Webex, Gotomeeting, R-HUB web conferencing servers etc. These are easy to use and allows easy and secured screen sharing.

What’s wrong with Skype? Sound is what’s wrong. Zoom has an option to ‘Use Original Sound’, stripping all sound ‘enhancement’ features used for teleconferencing. Keeps detail and BG sounds etc. Much, much better. Also, WebPresenter sucks when you use it on PC, as it screws up the luminance levels. Works OK on Mac. But something like Magewell USB Capture HDMI is cheaper and works fine, and no color space issue. When using Zoom, make sure to share the Magewell or WebPresenter as a Second Screen. When on Mac, this means toggling through the external camera options around 12 times, as WebPresenter presents each of its resolution/framerate options as an individual webcam. Finally, MC also supports NDI, which, using the NewTek NDI virtual input allows MC to stream straight into Zoom, removing the need for WebPresenter or Magewell device.

    Whaaaat ?

Right now I use the web presenter and zoom. Web presenter allows me to cut back and forth from sdi input and web cam, or in my case Bmpcc, as my kid stole my Webcam for university classes.

Job, you are saying this can be accomplished out of MC if I install the NDI plug in. (Which I usually dont)? Can you easily switch sources?

Doesn’t help with resolve, but most playbacks are for the edit, not the color.

I think it works on Win only. You can toggle MC between hardware IO and NDI Virtual output. To be honest, I’ve tried it very briefly but was unable to get audio out through the NDI. May have been user error, as I have read several posts from people who have used NDI.

Hi there Bob – hope you’re well! The Web presenter seems like a great way to avoid toggling the IO using something like NDI (which has been helpful but up to a point for our workflow). The 720p cap isn’t great, but definitely better than a stuttering screening session.

One question though – Is there that standard 5-15 sec delay when using this, or is that delay null and void as BM Web Presenter turns the feed into a source similar to a webcam? I hope this is a stupid question. Thanks again.

There will always be a delay when feeding a signal through the internet. How long of a delay is going to depend on your upload speed, and their download speed. There is a buffer in place to try to mitigate this as well. Without that delay, your clients poor connection would constantly stop and start and stop and start. By adding a buffer into the mix, the encoding stands a better chance of gettting smooth playback.

I’ve tried a few streaming services (mostly free) and have actually found youtube to be one of the better ones at limiting the delay, if there is a strong connection at both end.

I have to do this at least 2 times a week.

I’ve been using Microsoft Teams all this time and works great.

I share my desktop with the client so he can see whats I see.

Has a bit of lag sometimes, but with hi internet speed works prety fine.
