I am going up to v 6 and I am going run FCP remover and drag any apps to the trash before I install 7.

Is there anything else I need to remove for a clean install of v7?

    FCP Remover does it all.

Clone your system drive to a firewire drive first.

BEST way? Backup your files, erase the hard drive, install the OS from scratch, then update, then run Disk Utility to repair permissions, then install FCS 3.

Second best…run the FCS Remover and then install. https://www.digitalrebellion.com/fcs_remover.htm

I only do it the best way. That way I know it is good, and I don’t have to battle with issues down the road.

Will Super Duper do it or is there a better app.

When I clone, do I clone everything but FCP and Studio?

[Nelson May] “hen I clone, do I clone everything but FCP and Studio? “

Nope, clone everything including FCP and Studio. That way you’re covered if something goes kaplooie with the new install or the removal of FCP, and you could be back up and running in just minutes. It’s also a great way to cover yourself in case you forget something.

SuperDuper is just fine BTW and so is Carbon Copy Cloner…

See I’m going to wait for this method until Snow Leopard shows up so I can just do this once instead of twice in a matter of months….

Walter is the only one here making sense. OS-X 10.6 is AROUND THE CORNER. Are you going to do this process twice ? Who is going to run FCP7 on OS-X 10.5.7 in March 2010, when OS-X 10.6 is going to cost you all of $29 ? You KNOW that you are going to upgrade your OS to 10.6. Just wait.

Today, with internal SATA drives being SO CHEAP (60 bucks for a good 500 gig drive), why screw with your internal hard drive. Buy a second drive, pop it into your MAC Pro, and install a new OS. Why even back up. Nothing is cheaper than buying a second SATA drive, and then if something DOES go wrong – you won’t care, because you have not touched your drive that you make a living with.
