    Hello!

I have 18 (9 english + 9 french) videos I have to media manage to an external drive.
The french version of each video is pretty much the exact same video as the english just with french narration and french on-camera interviews.

What is the best way to media manage a project like this? Alot of the videos share some of the same footage so I want to avoid having duplicate clips if at all possible.

I have very little experience with media manager and don’t want to do more work than I have to. Any tips/tricks to make this go as quick as possible? It’s supposed to be sent out today.

I also don’t want to delete/media manage any of my own material on my own hard drives… just the stuff that will be sent to the client.

As of right now I have 9 different final cut project files… each with two sequences in each – french and english.

    Thanks in advance!

    1. Open a new project.

    2. Drag all final sequences into the Browser of the new project.

    3. Highlight all of the sequences in the Browser.

    4. In Media Manager select “Copy” media referenced by duplicated items.

    5. Uncheck the box “Delete unused media from duplicated items”

    6. Leave all other default boxes checked.

    7. Select the drive you’ll be sending in the “Media Destination” section at the very bottom of MM and create a new folder on that drive to copy everything to.

    8. Hit OK

One question… the original size when in MM is 1.4 TB with all 18 sequences.
If I uncheck the ‘delete unused media from duplicated items’ the modified size is the same 1.4 TB.
If I keep the ‘delete unused media from duplicated items’ box checked from duplicated items the modified size is only 133 G.

Why do you recommend to uncheck that box?

I probably misread your first post, thinking you wanted to send all media.

Go ahead and try using Delete Unused Media, sometimes it works properly, sometimes not. Its does take a while too, but as long as you’re using “Copy” you lose nothing but time.
