I am currently using Adobe Creative Suite CS4 to develop my motion graphics.

For some animations I use Photoshop source files, and for other projects I use Illustrator files. Regardless of the file format, however, my source files usually contain a large amount of layers, organized into groups so that my files are organized. I tend to nest groups as well in order to match the hierarchy of visuals in my files.

I know that Photoshop plays nicely wth After Effects in that all layer groups are imported as nested comps….. this is nice, but I still find it difficult to sync timing of many nested comps with one another…..

Illustrator, on the other hand, plays horribly with After effects, as each object must be put on its own layer in one big flat comp with tons of layers. I spend tons of time reorganizing my objects and having to manually rename every new layer. Is there any way to avoid this?
