Best way to import NXCAM .mpg to FCP
Posted by Gergo Szabo on November 15, 2010 at 7:22 pmHi,
We made a few shots with the SONY NXCAM in SD 16:9 (PAL). What is the best way to import it to FCP? I have converted all the clips with MPEG StreamClip to DV-PAL .mov , is there a better way?
When I tried to import the clips to compressor it freezed :S

Log and Transfer. Make sure that you are updated to FCP 7.0.3…there are issues with importing footage from that camera when audio is recorded LPCIM. Or, you can use ClipWrap2…convert the footage to ProRes 422, or ProRes LT.

WOW? Really? You converted all of your HD footage into the worse SD codec available? Ewww.
Yes, use Log and Transfer. You need to backup the FULL card structure in order to do that. If you didn’t, then use ClipWrap2.
I have a tutorial on this: Tapeless Workflow for FCP 7 Tutorial

November 15, 2010 at 10:44 pmWell actually this is a kind of interesting problem. The the files are:
Type: MPEG-2 video elementary stream
Usage:SD DVD
Video Encoder
Format: M2V
Width: 720
Height: 576
Pixel aspect ratio: PAL CCIR 601
Crop: None
Padding: None
Frame rate: 25We will use it in SD and as I see the original footage is SD too. That’s why I converted it to DV-PAL mov.
I know Log and Transfer we use It on the EX1R camera, but this is the first time when we used NXCAM. The EX1R records in SD to .avi

December 7, 2010 at 8:21 pmI have found the answer:
The update of the FCP 7.0.3 inculdes the support for the NXCAM SD Mpeg files.
Oh great why I didn’t updated it. :S
