I am using Sony Vegas 8 c and am trying to use an external monitor to preview video, but can’t figure out how to configure the decklink hd to the monitor. Any advice?

If your monitor doesn’t have an SDI card, you’ll need to use component out from the Decklink card to go component in. If you don’t have component in on your monitor, then you won’t be able to use Decklink (or any other SDI card).

HDMI to monitor (with HDMI input) with proper drivers won´t be better ???

the Intensity has HDMI, the Decklink does not.

… I was thinking on the new one (Decklink HD extreme)…

    this is from their site:

The new DeckLink HD Extreme is the most advanced capture card ever built. The new DeckLink HD Extreme includes all the powerful features of the previous model, but now adds HDMI capture and playback, plus new 3 Gb/s SDI support, and 3D lookup tables. Now you get all the power of film and high definition editing, at a standard definition price of only US$995!

    kind regards

You’re right, I should ask if it’s a Decklink, or a Decklink Extreme. OP says “Decklink” so I made an assumption.
    Back to your original question…
HDMI isn’t better than SDI, no. Depending on the monitor, it could even be inferior, albeit unlikely. HDMI is merely a “poor man’s SDI.”
Since we’re talking about Vegas 6 in the OP, my assumption would be we’re talking about an SD card vs HD card.
More info from the OP would help.

Thanks all. It turns out I just didn’t have my Decklink HD driver installed correctly for 64 bit. This has been a true trial and error.
    Thanks again.
