Hi, guys. I am looking at a situation in which I am receiving about 2TB per day of Camera Original to be done as incremental backups each day to a 48TB drive. The two drives are daisychained via thunderbolt 3 cables, connected to a Mac Pro via thunderbolt 2. I am using a free piece of software to make these incremental backups called GoodSync. The transfer speeds are fine, but the CheckSums are taking the better part of a day and it really bothers the DIT. What is the best software solution for incrementally backing up and performing CheckSums on such large transfers of material. Someone said I should consider Shotput Pro, but I don’t know if that would fair any better at the CheckSums. Unfortunately I am currently working mad hours and don’t have a ton of time to research this, so am reaching out for a bit of guidance.

Hi Scott – not sure if you’ve considered LTO as an alternative to offload your camera original to (vs your 48TB drive). LTO-8 drives are capable of over 300MB/Sec transfer speeds and offer 12TB capacity on a single cartridge, while costing just $150. There are some great workflows we provide using this technology. Feel free to contact me if interested.

Thanks, Doug. We were looking for a software-only solution for this particular job. We went with Shotput Pro.
