  • Best way to create a matte from 3D text but w/o the fillet caps….

    Hi all,

    would like some pointers on a problem;

    I have some 3D text elements (extruded AI splines) with a small fillet cap.

    I would like to export these elements out to AE so that I can them comp some footage into the letters. To do this I add a external composite tag and create an object buffer for the text layer so I can use this as a matte in AE….

    the problem is that the matte that is created INCLUDES the fillet caps, and i dont want my footage spilling over into these areas…

    Of course I could reduce the extrude nurbs/caps temporarily and export out – but this a little clumsy, any help appreciated,

    Cheers

    One way I can think to do it would be to make the text editable and make the caps a separate object with its own buffer.

    The other way would be to duplicate the text spline and extrude it with zero depth and no fillets. Then move it back in Z so it’s just barely in front of the other text’s cap, and place the buffer tag on flat extruded text. That will only work if you don’t use the “constrain” option in the caps tab of the first text object.
