Best way to convert 25p to 50i on Premiere
Hello. I am shooting video with Canon 60D for a broadcaster that wants output files at 720×576 50i. So far I have just shot and edited at 1080p25 and exported the final project from Premiere to the desired format. This obviously results in not so smooth output.
I would like to know, which workflow would result in the best possible quality. Would a combination of Fieldskit Reinterlacer and Twixtor improve quality? And would shooting at 720p50 be of any help?

1) Shooting at 50P would help as then it’s just a matter of discarding fields.
2) I don’t think for the 25P to 50i you need Twixtor, FieldsKit Reinterlacer mode Motion Estimated Fields would do.
A. In Premiere you work in a Progressive Sequence
B. You apply FieldsKit Reinterlacer, Upper Field FIrst – Output Create Motion Estimated Fields
C. You export Upper Field 25 FPS
and you should be good3) Now you need to apply this to individual clips on the timeline, otherwise you will get a weird second field at the end of each clip (as it will look otherwise to the next field which is completely different).

Few additional questions:
Does it make any difference in quality to shoot 720p or 1080p if I am downscaling to 576i anyways? Reinterlacing 720p50 material should give better results in motion, so I would prefer that.
In addition: when shooting at 50p frame rate and using Fieldskit reinterlacer to convert that to 50i in PP6, should I set my camera’s aperture to 1/50 or 1/100 in order to maintain smooth filmic motion?

Do you mean 720P or 1080i?
Of course 1080P will have more details then 720PPierre

My options for shooting are 1080p25 or 720p50. 1080p sure has more pixels and details but when I am downscaling to 720×576 in export, I am not sure if the difference matters. I tend to frame my shots quite carefully, so I don’t need to do that much zooming etc. in post.
Reinterlacing 50p to 50i seems to result in smoother movement than 25p to 50i, which is why I would prefer shooting with little less pixels&detail. Of course if the detail I am losing when changing from 1080p to 720p is significant even after downscaling, I must reconsider.
