I have a client who wants to conform a DPX sequence in Final Cut Pro. They shot on film and transferred their dailies to DV and edited in 29.97. They then had the film scanned to DPX files. The files have been broken up by shot name into folders.

What is the best way to conform this job?

You can use Glue Tools to make the .dpx files work in Final Cut Pro. You’d better have super fast hard drives though. Like, RAID fast.

I have a GspeedXL. What about the AJA DPX to QT translator? How can I connect all the files to the clients EDL after I convert it to 24fps?

If your client imported the telecine logs into Cinema Tools & digitized from that batch list, then you may only need to reconnect the files. If the names match, you might be able to do this automatically.

If your client did not do that, you may have to match frame each shot by eye & hand. If they didn’t log reel numbers properly, or didn’t capture with matching timecode, you’re in for a world of pain.

and this would be why you want Glue Tools over the AJA tool, Bob’s application is designed to handle this with ease even allowing you to use the same DPX files as an offline / online tool and full FCS integration for Compressor workflows conversions.

They have a Cinema Tools database that I am looking at now. I’ve never used this before.

The database the client gave me is in 30fps. The .mov files I created with the AJA application are 23.98 now. Can I convert the database to 23.98 and reconnect the clips and send that to Final Cut Pro?

    Hi,
We received delivery of a Russian film in DPX files. Is there anyone who knows a technician
in the los angeles area that does freelance file conversions From DPX to Final Cut Pro?
Our lab wanted to farm this job out and mark it up. I would rather deal with the person doing the work.
We ultimately need a Digi Beta. The show is in PAL format.

Please excuse me if this is not what this blog is for, but I saw this post and it was very imformative.

    Thanks
