  • Best way to Colour Correct Final Cut Footage

    Hey folks,

Just wondering if anyone experienced in color correcting knows of the most efficient way of doing so in after effects 7?

For instance, I’m doing the colour correction on a student film. I received the sequence file as well as the capture scratch for Final Cut. What would be the most efficient way of getting this footage into After Effects and colour correcting? exporting as a clip then just doing it scene by scene or does after effects have some feature I don’t know about?

    Thanks

If this were me, I would try to handle the color correction inside of Final Cut, by using the 3-way color corrector. If you don’t want to do this which will probably save you a bunch of hassle and time, After Effects does have plugins like Color Finesse, which I have never personally experienced. Also in AE, you could always use curves, levels, overlayed solids, brightness and contrast, hue/saturation, and all of those other effects in After Effects, but again, saves you a lot of time to just color correct in fcp.

I’m sorry… I misread your question… It was about how to actually get it into After Effects… I have heard some good thing about Automatic Duck.

You would still want to use Color Finesse in AE as AE doesn’t have any modern color correction utilities, just old school Photoshop correctors. So if you have the option to just do it in FCP, then I would install the FCP version of Color Finesse 2.0 into that. Even with the Duck, you may find the whole process is a major pain. The 3-way Color Corrector in FCP is about useless except for the most minor of tweaks as it doesn’t react or look like any other known color corrector. It’s just plain awful. But CF 2.0 is fantastic.
