Newbie here, just trying to figure out the best way to do something with a 3D model I have:

Client has a 3D mock-up of a box with an open lid, exported by his vendor as an OBJ file. I’ve imported it into Sketchup to make modifications (because I wasn’t familiar enough with C4D controls to know if it was possible), namely to remove some extra flaps but also separate the box lid into a separate object so that it could be hinged to open and close.

I’ve been able to separate the lid from the rest of the box in Sketchup, now I’m wondering if I need to export it and the box as separate models to be animated in C4D lite (I only have version that came with After Effects) or can they be in same file but saved as separate groups or components so that the lid can be easily hinged and moved.

    Does this make sense?

    TIA,
    JVK

you will want the box and the lid as two objects in the same file.
