I work at a school in Sweden. After a long struggle to keep our Apple computers we are finally forced by the commune to change to Window PC:s. It’s important we all have the same platform they say. We have come a long way in learning and teaching iMovie and the other integrated apps in the “i-family” so both teachers and pupils are comfortable using the apps in several different subjects. Now, are there as good apps in the world of Windows? Could anyone give us advice, please? We are in a hurry now because the commune

Although we’re not the best ones to ask, I’d suggest looking at Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0.

I’ve never used it but I feel it’s probably a very safe bet.

The Adobe family of products is probably a good way to go. You can also look at Pinnacle/Avid Studio.

Best bet is really to post this question in the PC app forums though as we’re all Mac based.

A better option is to look at Sony Vegas.

Yeah, its a higher costing editing platform but its making some real strides in editing on the PC that is incredible.

Since you are looking for an alternative to iMovie, I’m assuming you want a low-cost, more consumer-oriented software. That is, something that is simpler to learn and to teach. I would agree with the suggestion of Adobe Premiere Elements, because some of the skills learned in Premiere Elements will transfer nicely to the full version of Premiere. Also be aware that Sony makes a “lite” version of Vegas, called Vegas Movie Studio+DVD, which also retails for around $90USD.
