  • Best versatile GFX card for Prem Pro CS5, Maya and Gaming

I’m currently looking for a new GFX card for my PC and will be using it for three main things:

    1. Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects CS5
    2. Learning Maya
    3. A bit of gaming

I would like to know which card would give best overall performance across all three. I know that for the Adobe Mercury Engine I will need a new Nvidia card however the site lists only the 285 and 470 as certified cards, I have however heard that there is a way round this.

The big unknown for me is Maya since I have not yet started learning this but intend on doing so very soon, possibly through a course. Does Maya benefit from any special GFX cards?

The rest of my computer is a Core i7 920, 6 GB DDR3 RAM (Will be looking to upgrade to 12GB).

    Thanks for any advice.

    Which site?

Here’s the system requirements page, which lists far more cards than that.

There’s a lot misinformation flying around about Mercury and CUDA. This page is the official place for definitive information.

Thank you for the reply, I will get reading that page now.

The site I was looking at was the official Premiere Pro system requirements, I had just not mentioned the Quadro because I have heard they cannot be used for gaming.

I guess it is a whole different a whole different topic to discuss the benefits of those cards for design work!
