  • Best Tool for Converting Frame Rate?

Posted by Jake Wheeler on March 25, 2008 at 2:38 pm

    Hi,

I have 720p 16X9 footage shot at 23.98. The eventual outlet for the finished piece is youtube, which is at 30fps. For best clarity, should I:

    a) export from FCP as 23.98 and convert in Compressor?
    b) use a 29.97 timebase sequence in FCP and just render
    c) upload at 23.98 and let YouTube convert in their compression
    d) is there something in Cinema Tools that might be helpful?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks

    Jake

YouTube doesn’t insist upon 30fps, do they? I submitted a film to that site that was 23.98, and it plays fine. YouTube videos play back at the rate you send…if my understanding is right.

    Has that changed?

No. That’s the beauty of computer based video. It doesn’t care what frame rate you send, it just plays back what’s written in the header.

Just think of the possibilities if broadcast were this way.
