[Nelson Gama] “My project has 5.1 audio, which was filmed with my Sony AVCHD Handycam, as I said before, so with this audio settings (Audio Format: Sony Wave64 + Audio Template: 48,000 Hz, 16 bit, Stereo, PCM), as you said, will work with my sound system 5.1??”

No, you need Dolby Digital AC3 for 5.1 Surround support. You get this with DVD Architect. Otherwise, you are restricted to stereo only.

[Nelson Gama] “Another thing: the file that will result from the rendering process is a .ISO file, and as I seen before (an experience that I did) when I burned it into Blu-ray, I didn’t see the time rouler on my Blu-ray player from my living room, like the others blu-ray discs (films, etc). Why? It’s possible to solve this proble”

I don’t know. I guess this behaves differently because this is just a single file on a disc and not an authored Blu-ray disc with menus like you would have done with DVD Architect. It sounds like you really need DVD Architect to do what you want with your videos and Blu-ray.

    Hello John,
    Thanks for your answers!
Explain me: DVD Architect is a software like Sony Vegas Pro 10.0 to edit videos or only a software to burn discs?
If I get DVD Architect, can I burn blu-ray discs with the settings that you said before (Audio template: AC3) in Vegas Pro 10.0 or I must edit and burn with DVD Architect?

[Nelson Gama] “Explain me: DVD Architect is a software like Sony Vegas Pro 10.0 to edit videos or only a software to burn discs?”

DVD Architect comes with Vegas Pro 10 and is DVD/Blu-ray Authoring software. It does not edit video. It creates the menu structures and disc layouts for DVD and Blu-ray. It also includes the Digital Dolby AC3 encoder.

[Nelson Gama] “If I get DVD Architect, can I burn blu-ray discs with the settings that you said before (Audio template: AC3) in Vegas Pro 10.0”

Yes, you render in Vegas Pro and then drop the files onto the menu in DVD Architect and burn the disc.

DVD Architect comes with Vegas Pro 10 so you should have it if you have Vegas Pro 10. I don’t think they sell it separately.

    Hello again John and sorry,
I have already DVD Architect, but it says always this: “The AC-3 plug-in is currently unavailable. You can unlock this plug-in by installing and registering DVD Architect”.
So, I did again the render process with the settings that you said on the beginning:
    Video format: Sony AVC
Video Template: Blu-ray 1920×1080-50i, 16 Mbps video stream
    Audio Format: Sony Wave64
Audio Template: 48,000 Hz, 16 bit, Stereo, PCM

…but now I saw better and Audio Template is like this:
“Audio Template: 48,000 Hz, 16 bit, 5.1, PCM”…so, this is maybe my project is a 5.1 surround project and the render settings are mached to this, don’t you think??

Yes. My bad… I was checking the settings while in a stereo project so it didn’t show me the 5.1 templates. That is the correct PCM template for 5.1 Surround.

If you register your copy of DVD Architect, the AC3 option should work as well.

    Hello John,
    Thanks for your help!
I need to know this: MainConcept MPEG-2 is better quality than Sony AVC??
This hesitation is because I readed this in User’s Manual from Sony Vegas: “A 25 single-layer BD recordable disc can store approximately 3 hours, 42 minutes of AVC video (15 Mbps) or 2 hours, 15 minutes of MPEG-2 video (25 Mbps)”
After this I thought: well, if stores more hours in AVC than in MPEG-2 is because is better quality! Tell me John, do you think I’m right or wrong?

If I render my project with:
VIDEO FORMAT: MainConcept MPEG-2, the video Template must be: Blu-ray 1920×1080-50i, 25 Mbps video stream, because I don’t have 15Mbps as in AVC video template??
In AVC video format the video template is 15 Mbps…this diference may cause bad quality?
I hope you can explain me this.
    Thank you very much,

    Nelson Gama

The quality is about the same. AVCHD uses more compression which allows it to store more video in the same amount of space. I usually use MPEG2 because I shoot HDV but if I needed more room I would move to AVCHD instead.

[Nelson Gama] “In AVC video format the video template is 15 Mbps…this diference may cause bad quality?”

There are two Blu-ray AVC templates you could use: Blu-ray 1920×1080-60i, 16 Mbps video stream and Blu-ray 1440×1080-60i, 15 Mbps video stream. I would use the first one.

    Hello again,

Sorry John, but when I daid “…if stores more hours in AVC than in MPEG-2 is because is better quality” I was wrong, because is not!
If stores more hours in AVC is because is more compressed, as you said, so the quality can be bad or not so good as in MPEG-2.
I will give you the most complete information to see what the best to do, ok?
My project properties are this ones:

    VIDEO
    Template: HD 1080-50i (1920×1080; 25.000 fps)
    Width: 1.920
    Height: 1.080
    Field order: Upper field first
    Pixel aspect ratio: 1,0000 (Square)
    Output rotation: 0º (original)
    Frame rate: 25,000 (PAL)
    Stereoscopic 3D mode: Off
    Pixel format: 8-bit
    Full-resolution rendering quality: Best
    Motion blur type: Gaussian
    Dinterlace method: None

    AUDIO
    Master bus mode: 5.1 Surround
    Number of stereo busses: 4
    Sample rate (Hz): 48.000
    Bit depth: 16
    Resample and stretch quality: Best
Enable low-pass filter on LFE (surround projects only): is OK
Cutoff frequency for low-pass filter (Hz): 120 (Dolby pro/film)
    Low-pass filter quality: Best

So, with this “Project Properties” what do you think is better to do?
    If:
    Video format: MainConcept MPEG-2
    Video template: ?
    Audio format: ?
    Audio template: ?

    If:
    Video template: Sony AVC
    Video template: ?
    Audio format: ?
    Audio template: ?

    So…MainConcept MPEG-2 or Sony AVC?

If you need more information, please, tell me, because I whant the best quality for this Blu-ray film home made, ok? 😉

    Thanks and best regards,

    Nelson Gama

[Nelson Gama] “Template: HD 1080-50i (1920×1080; 25.000 fps)
    Dinterlace method: None”

This is WRONG. You have interlaced footage and you changed the deinterlace method to None. That will get you in trouble. Set the deinterlace method back to Blend Fields.

[Nelson Gama] “So…MainConcept MPEG-2 or Sony AVC?”

I though I already answered this the first time you asked. Your source is AVCHD therefore render to Sony AVC.

    Hi John,

My name is CPT Cagnolatti.. I created a video of my soldiers in a ceremony. I completed editing in Vegas and put the files (mpeg-2/ac3 studio) in DVD Arch…

Is there a way in ARCH or/ and using another program say NERO 10 to create an ISO to upload to a server then have someone download it and burn it with the DVD ARCH menu intact for playback from a dvd player?
