best render settings using canon XLH1
Posted by Doug Kereszturi on June 19, 2011 at 1:01 pmI have some footage shot with the Canon XLHI. I plan to use the HD/Dv output from the camera. I shot in HD mode which is 1920 x 1080i at 60. What settings should I set up Sony Vegas Pro to capture?

Can you tell me if the settings should be 1920 1080i or 1440..?

June 19, 2011 at 2:45 pmDoug, I’ve never used that camera but, in theory, the format that you shot in is what will get captured.
You said you shot in 1920 x 1080 60i so that’s what should end up on your hard drive after capturing.
If you’re unsure, try a short capture and then load it into Vegas to confirm things. -

June 19, 2011 at 5:38 pmThanks again,
I am capturing by opening up vegas. When I do this it asks you what settings you want to use. This is where the hesitation comes in.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

June 19, 2011 at 10:00 pmYou know the mode you shot in, if you shot in 1920×1080 then choose this setting, if you shot in progressive then choose 1920x1080p if you shot in 1920x1080i then choose interlaced.
then when it is time to edit, before you drop your footage into the Vegas timeline, open up your project properties, & at the top right of the properties window is a little yellow icon, that once you scroll over it, it will say ( MATCH MEDIA SETTINGS) click it, then it will open up a windows explorer window that you can browse to locate the files you just uploaded, click on one of your files you just uploaded & Vegas automatically will match ALL your project properties to your media properties, then drag ALL your files into Vegas.
HAVE FUN
