Best RAID Setup
Hi!
I have some questions about the best RAID Config for Video Editing and Motion Design. I use a lot of After Effects, Cinema 4D, Photoshop and Premiere Pro. I do this for a living.
Currently I’m using a 3Ware 4xSATA Raid Controller and using 2×500 GB (7200RPM) and 2x 1TB (7200RPM) Drives both in RAID0.
First (2x500GB) is for OS (Windows 7 64bit) and Applications.
On the second RAID0 Drive (2x1TB) are my Project Files and Scratch Disc.Besides those drives I’m running one 500GB Drive and one 750GB Drive on which i do Backups regulary.
As my Discs are getting soon full – I bought a PCIe Solid State Drive in RAID0 Config (120GB) which i’m going to use for OS and Apps.
Further i got myself an 2TB external Harddrive with eSATA and RAID 1 Configuration. This is now the setup i’m planning:
SSD PCIe Drive with 120GB (RAID0) for OS and Apps
2 x 500 GB SATA 7200RPM in RAID 0 as Project Drive (Projectfiles & Footage)
2 x 1TB SATA 7200 RPM in RAID0 as Output Drive and Scratch Disc
External RAID1 Harddrive (eSATA) as Backup Drive
I’m really not sure if this is the best setup i can achieve with these components – Any suggestions are very appreciated. Im also anxious of loosing important data with RAID0 Setup – thinking of going with RAID1 for output and saving important files and finished projects.
Thank you all so much for your input.
I hope my english is understandable 🙂
