  • Best Quicktime format from FCP to Adrenaline?

Posted by Bob Roberts on November 28, 2006 at 5:29 am

I have to send an uncompressed Quicktime file from Final Cut Pro to an Adrenaline suite. What is the best codec to use?

    Thanks in advance.

just export from FCP (quicktime conversion) using the Animation codec at full quality. Animation is a standard Quicktime Codec available to all systems.

The Avid Quicktime Codec, will give you a faster import into the Adrenaline, BUT installing the Avid Quicktime Codec on your FCP system (if you are running 5.1.2) may cause FCP to unexpectedly quit on startup, so I would avoid it unless it is specifically required.

The Apple Uncompressed 8 and 10 bit Codecs are installed by Final Cut Pro only, so they will not be available on the Adrenaline system.

Do you know if Avid will read the file as 0-255 or 16-235?

You set that in the import dialog.

Or, if you have SDI out of the FCP system, simply run FCP out to MCA in and capture on-the-fly in real time.
