Best PPCS6 Settings for DSLR and Animation Footage
Hello,
Our studio has been using CS6 for about a month now, and have only one real problem that comes up.
We shoot most of our footage with a Canon 5D DSLR, and use animation files with alpha channels (made in AECS6) that overlay on top of our DSLR footage inside of PPCS6.
We also use a Blackmagic Ultrastudio3D box to get our video previews on multiple displays. So we use the Sequence Preset of – Blackmagic Design > HD1080 > Progressive > 23.976p. Which means the editing mode is – Blackmagic Uncompressed.
What happens is that we bring in our DSLR footage and everything works fine, previews run smoothly even without work area rendering, but as soon as our animation files with alpha channels are brought in and dropped on the timeline, PPCS6 starts to REALLY struggle, even when we render the work area out, it still cannot preview the timeline without severe hiccups.
Should we be doing something completely different with the way we are setting up our sequences? Should we try using Adobe Dynamic Link more? (I have, but the slow downs I described above pretty much apply to Adobe DL also).
Much appreciate any help on this.

A few questions:
What is your animation codec/format?
Are you rendering the timeline afterwards? A yellow indicator bar only means “may playback in realtime”
Do you get any better performance if you set your playback resolution to 1/2 or 1/4?
Is your camera footage and animation footage on the same hard drive? If the animation is in a “heavy” file format like a PNG image sequence, you may have a bottleneck from the hard drive.
